Philodendron 'Snowdrift' Ø12cm

Philodendron 'Snowdrift' is a rare collector's hybrid from the Araceae family, prized for its large leaves covered with a spectacular creamy-white variegation, like a snowy landscape. Every leaf is unique, with white and green areas in ever-different combinations. A climbing plant with slower growth due to the variegation, it becomes ever more impressive as it matures on a support - a true living work of art for enthusiasts. Growth and development Philodendron 'Snowdrift' is a climbing plant which, although it grows at a calmer pace than green varieties due to the variegation, becomes impressive over time. It needs a moss pole (support) to climb with its aerial roots, thereby developing ever larger leaves. It is a remarkable decorative piece, also suitable as a refined accent among the office plants with good light. Here are the essential care requirements: A fascinating detail about Philodendron 'Snowdrift' is the way light shows off the leaves: the white, chlorophyll-free areas let light pass through, creating a delicate luminous effect when the leaf is viewed against the light. The more bright indirect light the plant receives, the more new leaves tend to keep their white proportion, which makes correct positioning the single most important factor in its aesthetic development. A lovely thing to keep in mind is the calm growth typical of plants with extensive white variegation: rather than a new leaf every week, 'Snowdrift' takes its time, and every new leaf becomes a small event, observed and celebrated by plant lovers. Patience is richly rewarded, each leaf being unique in its combination of white and green. To obtain the healthiest leaves, many experienced growers keep 'Snowdrift' in a humidity-controlled environment, such as a plant cabinet or next to a humidifier. Stable conditions - constant temperature, good light and high humidity - are the key to large leaves, without dry edges or brown spots on the white areas. Light: bright indirect light, ideal for maintaining the white variegation; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the white areas. Insufficient light leads to greener leaves and slower growth. Temperature: 18-27°C; keep it away from spots below 15°C and cold draughts, as it prefers warmth. Watering: let the top of the substrate (2-3 cm) dry between waterings; every 7-10 days in summer, less often in winter. The white areas prefer soil that is never waterlogged. Humidity: 60-80% is ideal; high humidity encourages large, healthy leaves. A humidifier is recommended. Substrate: an airy aroid mix - pine bark, perlite, sphagnum and charcoal; well-draining, never compact. Fertilising: balanced diluted fertiliser, once every 3-4 weeks in the growing season; do not over-fertilise. Support: a moss pole for climbing; wipe dust off the leaves for optimal photosynthesis. With a careful setup - good light, humidity and an airy substrate - Philodendron 'Snowdrift' becomes a spectacular centrepiece, a plant that grows in aesthetic and collector's value with every new white leaf it reveals. In conclusion, Philodendron 'Snowdrift' combines rarity, spectacular white variegation and stage presence in a single plant. Beyond its aesthetic value, it also helps purify the air in the home. With the right care, it becomes a green-and-white heirloom that impresses for years and grows in collector's value with every new leaf.
