Description

The AD9833 is a low power, programmable waveform generator capable of producing sine, triangle, and square wave outputs. It is suitable for applications such as waveform detection, signal generation, and time domain reflectometry (TDR) that require precise frequency and phase control. The device is software programmable and requires no external components for operation. The frequency register is 28 bits wide with a 25 MHz clock, providing a frequency resolution of 0.1 Hz. When clocked at 1 MHz, the device achieves a resolution of 0.004 Hz. The AD9833 features a standard serial interface that enables direct communication with microprocessors and microcontrollers. Data is written to the device using an external serial clock. Key features include digitally programmable frequency and phase control, 12.65 mW power consumption at 3 V, and an output frequency range from 0 MHz to 12.5 MHz. The device supports a reference clock up to 25 MHz and generates sine, triangle, and square wave outputs. It operates from a 2.3 V to 5.5 V power supply and does not require external components. The serial interface supports clock frequencies up to 40 MHz and is compatible with standard DSPs and microcontrollers. The AD9833 includes a power-down mode (SLEEP) that reduces power consumption by disabling internal circuitry when not in use. Extended operating temperature range: -40°C to +105°C. Typical performance specifications are specified at 25°C. Maximum update rate: 25 MHz. Output voltage range: minimum 38 mV, maximum 0.65 V. Output voltage temperature coefficient: 200 ppm/°C.
